Frances Driscoll

Frances is a multi-disciplinary artist whose work is rooted in collage and drawing but also incorporates filmmaking, writing, printmaking and installation. She is interested in deconstructing how we engage with (popular) culture and how this can be reconstructed and re-contextualised. She looks at cinema, advertising, architecture, dance and music as well as art history to inform her research, which is a critical aspect of her practice.

She takes an embodied, playful and conceptual approach to making work and aims to achieve a measured ambiguity within her visual language.

“It remains important that the audience is given enough to engage with the work but not too much: I want the viewer to be active when looking – trying to make sense of what they see and then ask what is it referencing or trying to say and why that is significant”
